About Us

Hello,

My name is Neil and together with my wife Tracy, bought “Grooby’s Pit” in September 2011 after living in France for 10 Years.

After renovating numerous French properties, eating a lot of French cuisine & drinking too many bottles of French wine, we returned to the UK to start a new life  in Lincolnshire.

We are very proud of our caravan park that we started from nothing, which is exclusive to adults only. We have been awarded 5 stars from Quality In Tourism. We are also privileged to be part of the “Tranquil Parks” Group.

We enjoy welcoming new & returning guests that enjoy the tranquillity and wildlife around us. We have a selection of  pitches, hard standing or grass pitches. All pitches have their own tap & 16amp EHU/light. All are large, level and are positioned around the lakes.  The heated toilet and shower block is cleaned daily to an impeccable standard, which we have had many positive comments about. We also have an indoor washing up area, dedicated dog shower with the correct water temperature. Onsite Information & Laundrette Pod and a dog run.

There are 2 well stocked onsite fishing lakes. As well as the choice of individual, private fishing pegs on the main lake there is also a new grassed peninsular, ideal for customers that don’t do well with steps or for couples that want to fish together. The lake has also been restocked and is full of Bream, Carp, Perch, Rudd, Tench, Roach, Barbel, Pike, Skimmers & even Eels.

The  Nursery lake that we created in 2017 is also stocked with carp, bream, tench & Golden Orfe.

At the top of the lake perfectly positioned to see the sunrise sits our Deluxe Camping Pod  “Kingfisher Lookout” (built by me – See Lincs Pods). Complete with its own shower room & all the facilities you need during your stay. Private fishing platform and now boasts a private hot tub tucked away with views of the lake. For customers wanting even more luxury during their stay.

New for 2023 is Squirrel Hideaway. A pet friendly shepherds hut with private fishing peg. Situated on the main lake.

In 2024 we welcomed Debbie & Robert to be our wardens. Coming from the industry they have become a great addition. We also introduced Janet who cleans the toilet/shower facilities for us & keeps them pristine. The whole team work well together & we are so lucky to have a great team behind us that we can rely on.

We have had a lot of positive feedback and we try to make sure all our customers have an enjoyable stay with us. For those of you that don’t fish, don’t worry just sit back & relax. Enjoy the wonderful wildlife that Grooby’s Pit has to offer. From the King Fishers to the owls.

Our motto is “Nothing is a problem”. We look forward to welcoming you too.

Hope to see you soon,

Neil & Tracy Murten

PS

“Where does the name Grooby’s Pit come from?”

This is one of the most asked questions I get from customers.

Before we bought the place it was owned by a Mr Grooby. Whom we never actually met as Mr Grooby died about 8 years before we purchased the place. When we bought there was a house which was falling down sitting on a parcel of land with the original lake (but not the shape it is today & none of the fishing pegs were in). After speaking with local people & explaining where we lived they all said “oh you mean Grooby’s Pit”. I did some research & discovered that Grooby’s Pit was once where they made bricks from (hence the pit part of the name). There was a barn close by where they dried the bricks. Grooby’s Pit was one of the first fishing lakes in Lincolnshire & was well known for the Bream.

Mr Grooby never had any children but his niece & nephew were born in a neighboring property. His niece visited us after approximately two years of owning the place & she said “Mr Grooby would love the fact that we kept his name”.

It is a strange name & some people love it, others dislike it, but either way it is a special place that we hope you enjoy.
